These are highlights of the cities you'll be visiting. Shore excursions are available for these sights as well as many others at an additional cost.
Enjoy wandering through the narrow, winding streets of this delightful seaside village with its whitewashed houses, flowers and brightly painted shutters and doors. Stand beneath the windmills on the hill. Visit the archaeological museum and an old bakery still using a 15th century wood-burning stove.
Visit the beautiful whitewashed hilltop towns of Oia and Fira and their breathtaking views of the caldera below. See the stunning artifacts in Fira's museum, including recent finds from the excavation of Akrotiri, thought by many to be the legendary city of Atlantis, or visit a winery. Stroll through the winding streets with fantastic views around every corner.
Visit the great Minoan ruins of the Palace of Knossos, famous as the home of the labyrinth where the Minotaur roamed, and the archaeological museum that houses many superb artifacts from the complex. Explore the stunning, mountain-fringed Lassithi plateau with its orchards, 7,000 windmills and ancient villages.
A playground for yachters, tourists and jet setters, modern Bodrum stands on the site of the ancient city of Halicarnassus. You can still see the foundations of the mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, which was destroyed by earthquakes. The Knights of St. John used its stones to build Bodrum Castle, fascinating not only as a medieval monument but also for the Museum of Underwater Archaeology within its walls, which includes a display of the oldest known shipwreck.
Dive into the surf or soak up the sun on any number of Izmir’s magnificent beaches. Visit the lavish Izmir Clock Tower as you stroll through the celebrated Konak Square. Soak up the local scenery as you meander along the relaxing Kordonboyu oceanfront promenade.
Dotted with splashes of wild tulips and iconic mastic trees, the Aegean island of Chios is a beauty known for its black volcanic beaches. History buffs will enjoy the collection of rare murals and wooden carvings in the Chios Byzantine Museum, which is housed in an Ottoman mosque.
Built on a promontory on the site of ancient Neapolis, Kavala offers fine beaches and numerous historic sites. A Byzantine castle lords over Kavala, and its 16th century aqueduct is still intact. The ruins of nearby Philippi include a Roman forum and a 5th century cathedral.
Tucked away in the northern Aegean Sea, Limnos is considered one of the best-kept secrets in the Greek Isles. The capital of Myrina exemplifies the charm, cultural allure and natural beauty of the island – notably free from crowds. It features cobblestone lanes lined with neoclassical architecture and restaurants, as well as a marina with plentiful seafood tavernas. The 13th- century Venetian castle sits atop the capital’s highest peak and is well worth the walk for the stunning sea views alone. In addition to archaeological sites and vineyards, Limnos is also home to several unique geological features to explore: volcanic landscapes, petrified forests, thermal springs and tropical dunes that compose one of only two deserts in Europe.
