Enjoy an enlightening ferry ride through parts of the Panama Canal where workers overcame some most difficult engineering challenges. You will board the ferry inside the Panama Canal and soon pass through the Gaillard Cut, an excavated gorge more than eight miles long. The soil here was originally unstable, causing landslides that made construction all the more demanding. Temperatures that often rose well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit didn’t help matters. While cruising through some of the canal locks and Miraflores Lake, you will learn all sorts of fascinating information about the canal’s history and construction. A buffet lunch will be served as you make your way to the last lock on the Pacific Ocean side of Panama.
